Work-a-holic

The purpose of this section of quarkstar.com is for me to blog about the things I do at work. I'd like to start keeping better track of the problems I am working on and their solutions in the hopes that they can help myself or others in the future.

So to start, here is a quick look at what my job entails.

I work at a university library as the public computer manager. For those that don't know, public computers are any computers in the libraries that are used by patrons which includes lab computers, catalog computers and laptops. You have to find a balance between security and usability so I spend a fair amount of time tweaking and updating computers. I am also in charge of the computers at public service desks - circulation, reference, etc.

I manage about 200 computers with the bulk being Windows XP machines. We currently also have 6 iMacs in the mix which I do enjoy working on from time to time.
