Ribfest!!!

So I was sitting here around noonish, waiting for my exciting lunch of popcorn to finish popping in the microwave when Susan asks me if I have had lunch yet. I said no, and she asks if I like ribs. I like ribs ok, so I said sure. So we trek downtown to the annual Capital City Ribfest where 7 rib places compete for a $2,000 prize. The people attending the event vote on what is best. I had a beef brisket sandwich from the Aussie BBQ place and it was yummy. Susan and Nick tried the ribs from 3 places and I tasted some of that too. Overall we picked the Aussie place as the best, it was really good. The problem with ribfest though is that it's really pricey. It costs $2 just to get in and at each place, food ranged from $5-10. The rib samplers (3-4 ribs) were $5 and that seemed a bit much to me. If they were about $2-3 I might have tired more places. I also got roasted sweet corn which was really good, roasted right in the husk, delicious.

After we ate, I decided to buy some lottery tickets so that I could spin the wheel and win some stupid lottery prize. I ended up winning a neat little pocket knife, which was fun to play with. I also won $2 and a free lottery ticket, that ended up being a loser ticket. Oh and also, I picked up a cheap lottery coin for ticket scratching.

After ribfest we went to Culvers for custard cones and something to drink. After Culvers we went to HyVee so I could redeem my tickets and we ended up getting groceries too. I needed groceries though, so that was a good thing. They had free samples of Spongebob push pops that we took, but neither Susan and I could finish ours. They just didn't taste good, but I'm not sure if it was because they actually didn't taste good, or because we were so full. Milk was on sale too, so that was a plus.

That's about it from me, it's really hot out so I'm kinda tired and hyper at the same time. Going out tonight should be interesting. I'm not planning on drinking, or if I do, it will only be one drink early. I would like a nice amaretto sour, I like those a lot.

I hope everyone has a safe Saturday night, later kids!

It's a nowhere road..

and I'm tired.

It's nice to have my mp3s again, gives me something to listen to. (Ha! Look at that lack of grammar caring! I am a maniac!)

Not much to report, didn't do anything really last night. Played checkers and chatted with my buddies. Planning to go out to the bars tonight and hang out. I'm DD so that should be, fun, I guess. It was my choice though, so I can't complain too much.

I need groceries and what not today. At some point Nick is gonna come over and get something I downloaded for him. Other than that, it's just a hot, lazy Saturday.

Mad

Trust me, you don't want to make me mad. I got mad at someone tonight, still am miffed too. I'm not sharing details because I don't think I need to share everything with the whole world. Those that I want knowing, already know.

I just don't know why I even bother sometimes. People, friendships are two-way deals!! Don't forget that!

Cool

So MercX is up and better than ever. It's like having a new computer. Everything seems to be running faster and it actually shuts off when you click shut down. I still need to get it to recognize the 200 gig drive, which is the important one since that's where all the backup stuff is at, but all in all I am quite happy it is running.

So I went out and ran some errands this afternoon and realized I was a wash in the valley of the freaks. There is a very good chance I was a member of that club, but I sure hope not. I swear, from about 2-4 the freakish jobless huddle takes to the streets and stores. It was crazy and cool all at the same time.

The lottery was kind enough to send me a free ticket coupon for my birthday, so I figured I would take it in and get one, figuring I wouldn't win. I did, only $6 but that's not bad considering it was free. That's where the highest volume of freaks were, trying to buy lottery tickets and what not. It was quite scary.

After that I got a shake at Amigos, only 99 cents today only, and headed back home to continue working on the computer.

Sweet!

MercX is back up and running now!!

Smoothly now..

Things are going pretty smoothly now. I was able to get in and back up MercX pretty quickly and am now on the fun road of reformatting an 80 gig harddrive. Yay. Formatting takes a long time. There doesn't seem to be any hardware problems based on the second XP drive, so that is a plus. Also MercX is finally able to run at the speed the processor was made to run at and not underclocked like the Amptron seemed to think was necessary. I am quite happy with the new motherboard, even if it does require some extra work. I figure by this evening, I'll be back up and running, better than ever. I am excited, it's almost like having a new computer.

*sigh*

So things aren't going as easily as I had hoped, looks like a reformat is in order now. Of course I didn't want to do this at all but I will. Right now I have killed the Linux machine to reinstall windows on that drive, so I can slave the 80 gig drive and back it up to the laptop, and then I will format the 80 gig drive and reinstall windows. That's the plan anyway.

Motherboooaaarrrddd..

Yep, I went and bought a new motherboard for MercX. At least I have a project for the afternoon. Let's all hope for a painless rebuilding procedure, shall we?

The end leads us back...

to the beginning.

So today is the big day. My last day here. I awoke earlier than normal, got a bagel on my way in and have fully prepared for an uneventful final day. Today is finals day for the kids so I don't expect the lab to be too busy, but you really never know. I am going to write a more through, reflexive type entry and post it to the column later today. I feel that it is better left to be complied and processed after the day is over.

Happy Birthday to Dippy, even though I'm pretty sure he doesn't read this. It is nice to finally know someone who is older than me, even if it is only 10 days. So ha, yer old now and I'm not... er... ahem...

Well, since I have nothing more to say right now.... peace!

Quandary...

Buy a new motherboard.... don't buy a new motherboard..... I am torn. DIT has one for sale right now that Joey has and says is really nice. It would be so great to have a system with reliable IDE and an AGP port. The thing is though, if I replace the motherboard, I have to also replace the video card, because this one is on board currently. I can pull the video card out of the linux box for the time being until I decided what to do about video. It's not a bad card but I can't remember the specs off the top of my head. The other thing is once I have the new mobo, I have to actually do the work. I suppose it's not so bad, at least I am going to have the time soon to work on that.

Tomorrow is my last day.

The Rumor Mill

This place here is great, I'm telling you. Since no one person put out any concrete information about me leaving, where I was going or what I am going to do, I have heard some interesting things about my own future plans.

Apparently I am either going part-time and going to school, or I'm just going back to school, or my favorite from today, that I am going way to school. The last one was nice to find out, because if that one is true, then I better get packing, too bad I don't know where I'm going.

My actual plans are still kind of vague and when I tell people they give me this odd look and don't seem to know what to say. I think I will just tell people from now on that I'm joining an interplanetary transport unit headed for Vector 6. Probably get the same look.

Argh

Went to my appointment at 3 and it just reminded me again why it is that I don't want to get my MBA from UNL. I was only there for about 5 minutes, she didn't tell me anything all that useful and she didn't even pull out and look at my file before I got there, nor did she go to get it during the 5 minutes. I don't know, I got a bad vibe from the whole thing and think I have to rethink this before I jump in too far. I think I will still take the GMAT and send my scores to a few places, like UC Boulder or something nice like that. I like the idea of getting my graduate degree, but I think I am just sick of UNL and should just give up and go somewhere else.

No call yet about the resume, but I have to keep some amount of hope alive, so maybe tomorrow.

Today was the last CADC meeting with me still working in CBA. Nate, Joey, Joe (the new guy) and I went to BW3s for lunch. It seemed like the best place to go for the last lunch. I have to say that I think Joe is going to fit in fine and I'm not worried about things anymore. Well, I never really was all that worried, but I am glad to see they have someone coming in that isn't a sociopath or anything like that. Joe is actually a really cool guy and I think he will fit the bill quite nicely. I was able to fill him in on some of the nuieance of working with the rest of the staff, who to talk to about what, things like that.

After that I went to Homer's and bought a CD. While waiting for my appointment, I stopped in the Union and played pinball but got really bored with that and went and bothered Joey for a bit. After the appointment I came home, and that's where I am now.

I really want mexican food for dinner tonight though, I have been craving it for quite awhile now. Mmm... mexican food...

School Stuff

So I have an appointment tomorrow at 3:00 to see Judy, the graduate advisor in CBA. She's the one that had been bugging me about the MBA program. I want to see what my options are as far as paying for school and assitantships, etc. It should be interesting, I will post the details after the meeting, I'm sure.

Not much of an update..

Just got back from running to the post office and gave NWU a call. They are still "in the process of reviewing resumes" so there is still hope for me yet. I was again thinking this morning of how much I'd love to have that job. It just sounds like something I really want to do. Equally exciting though is my fall back plan of going back to school full-time. I will take either situation now and am trying my best to wait it out. I'm just one of those people that wants to know right away what's going on but I understand that all things have processes, and everyone has to wait for them to be completed.

I've been playing a lot more Yahoo games recently, mostly against Jax, but if anyone else wants to take me on in some checkers or go or whatever, just let me know. I am down for some gamage.

Mornin'

Yesterday was pretty boring by most standards. Did some laundry, ate lunch, went to work from 1 to 5, ate dinner, went home and got on the computer. After that I read and went to bed. Not the most exciting day, but overall it wasn't bad.

Thursday is my last day and I was having mixed feelings about it before, but now, it can't get here too soon. This morning I accidentally shut off my alarm and went back to bed. I happened to still wake up in time to get to work but I think my mind is trying to tell me something. I am ready for some time off to just sleep in and be lazy.

Well, I have print cards to punch and online games to play, so I'm out.

Eep

Tonight went pretty well, although Joey was MIA. Still not sure what was up with that, but no big deal. Nate and Kelly came over and we went ahead and told Jeff he could come too. We played Halo, some people drank and we mainly just hung out for the evening. It was really a lot of fun. Not much more to mention about that. Hope you all had good evenings!
