Hola

I have spent most of the day today cleaning up the place. It looks really good and I'm glad I took the time to do it, but during it I wanted to quit. It's nice to have a clean place, but keeping it that way takes a lot of work. I have to run to the store soon and get some stuff but other than that it's been a pretty decent Saturday.

Joey and Nate should be coming over tonight for a bit of Halo action and otherwise hanging out. It should be pretty cool. I have to work tomorrow and get the laundry done, so it should be an interestingly busy day. I have to work from 1 to 5 so if anyone feels like chatting, I'll be around and probably bored.

Later kids!

Woo

I am home now, but I had a pretty good afternoon. Work was work and that's all that needs to be mentioned about that.

Met up with my mom for lunch at Runza then went looking at cell phones. I have a cell phone now, but I didn't like the style, so we went to AT&T wireless to check their rates and decided to stick with the plan we have now but replace my phone. I got a new Motorola flip phone that's pretty cool. There was a rebate form and a special with the contract so it wasn't that expensive. My mom ended up saying it would be my birthday present this year, so I was down with that. I will post a link to the phone if I find it and remember.

No call about the job but I am starting to figure that it's ok that way. If nothing comes of this job then I'm going to go back to school full-time. I'm going to go ahead to keep pursuing my MBA but switch my emphasis to Marketing. I would like to become a professor some day, at the community college level would be best for now. I figure going with Marketing has a few benefits, one being that I can always then go into advertising if teaching doesn't work out and they have this cool assitantship program that gets you teaching experience as well as a scholarship. I am going to meet with the advising office next week to look into how I am going to pay for classes and what not.

I need to clean tonight, but right now I really don't feel like it. What I really want is mexican food for dinner. I may have to hit the mexican place tonight. Mmmm... tacos..

Bookstore Drive-thru

So apparently stealing text books is the next big thing in crime around here...

One week left...

Only one week for work left. My last day will be the 14th and then who knows what. No call yet from NWU so I don't know if that's going to happen or not. I wish that it would, but there isn't anything I can do about it now.

Lots of calls came in while I was watching the help desk so it was a bit more stressful than I would have preferred. It just put me in a bit of a bad mood so I'm trying to think of what I can do to get over it. Maybe I just need a long nap, that may not be such a bad idea.

Saltdogs!!

So I'm sitting in the living room playing Final Fantasy when the phone rings. I get up fully expecting it to be another telemarketer but instead it's my brother. "Do you want to go to the Saltdog's tonight?" he asks. I quickly IM C-bob
Me: Saltdogs?
C-Bob: Tonight?
Me: Yea, bro's tickets
C-Bob: Hellz Yea!

So I tell him, "Yea, we'll take the tickets."

We had to go pick them up from him and then drive to the game. The game actually started out pretty slow and the dogs seemed to be tired and not really into the game. St. Paul scored a run in the first inning, but it was to be their last for that game. My beloved Saltdogs pulled of an 8-1 win, which was awesome. Since they had over 12 hits, the tickets are worth 12 free wings at Brewskey's. I'm gonna give my to Joey and C-bob gave me her's to give to one of the guys. They are going to Brewskey's tomorrow for some big scary bonding/retreat thing. I don't want to know.

Nothing to exciting from a promotion point, it was autograph day but we got there after that was over. We lingered after longer and saw the kids mauling the players for autographs, it was pretty funny.

After that we went to IHOP for some munchies and then headed home. I'm a bit tired so I'm gonna sleep soon.

Another fun day in work land...

So today has been another interesting day. I have been having to answer phone calls for a bit this morning, as people are up and running around along with having some problems in the lab.

My greatest achievement for the day, I lost someone's paper that was due at 11. Go me. The computer lost its network connection so she couldn't print or save it to a network drive. To make this even better, the computer's floppy drive didn't work. There is software on the computers that resets up the harddrive on a reboot so you can't save to the harddrive. Instead of thinking though, I deactivated the software, saved the file and rebooted. I was thinking that it would deactivate and not reset up on reboot, but I was wrong. The file was gone. Had I actually been thinking I could have tracked down a zip disk somewhere and used that. That would have been the smarter thing to do. Too bad I didn't have my usb drive keychain, because that also would have worked. She had to go dig her handwritten paper out of the trash and she was going to explain to the professor what happened. Outside typing it up 20 mins before class, this really wasn't her fault. At least she had the handwritten paper to prove it was finished. I ended up giving her a couple of free print cards, since I felt we owed her something.

There is a giant spider crawling near me now, I'm just going to hope it stays away. I'm not scared of spiders but this one does not look like something I want mess with.

I hope I hear back from NWU soon, I would really like to get an interview set up. I am going to be working longer tomorrow, until 2:30 because of some meeting. I will be back doing my old job of manning the help desk for a couple hours. I also agreed to come work in the lab on Sunday from 1-5, that should be thoroughly painless and probably boring, but at least I'm getting paid.

Today's Recap

This morning started out so boring, I was sitting in the lab, no one was there and I couldn't think of anything to do.

At about 9 I checked my email and NWU had emailed me about the job, the sent me the HR information and asked me to call or email if I was interested still. I called the lady and they have now moved my resume to the search committee. I guess that is just their procedure but it was odd to have them ask if I was still interested when I had just applied the day before.

For awhile it was still boring at work, until my computer crashed. Basically it had a memory overflow error, a bunch of them and the RPC service died and it forced a reboot. As this was happening, I looked up and noticed a lot of the lab computers were doing that. I got up and started rebooting computers and told the people in the lab to save because it looked like the computers were crashing. They were like, yea, we noticed that. Thanks for telling me, oh well. So then all the computers lose network connections so no internet or printing. We hadn't put the latest security patch from Microsoft up yet so we thought that was probably the problem. The U was also getting attacked on their DHCP and DNS servers. For some reason, the computers regained network connections so we thought that was the end of it and rebooted all the computers (62) again and let it go. About 30 mins later they all started the crashing thing again so we knew they had to get patched. I decided the only thing we could do was close the lab down until the computers were patched. So I started patching them, then Nate joined followed by Joe and then Joey. All the computers are running a lockdown program that has to be deactivated, adding time to the method, but we had the lab back up and running within an hour. We were late for lunch, but everything should be fixed now.

Got home, checked my email and decided to play video games all afternoon. I actually only played Final Fantasy X all afternoon until I died. I was thinking about playing some more tonight but I think I will wait until tomorrow. I have been reading the newest Harry Potter book, so I am in the middle of that too.

Peace.

Job Applyin'

So I took my resume and cover letter over and after some wandering around trying to find the office, I dropped it off at the business office.

A little info about this job, it is at Nebraska Wesleyan University working with their IS department as the "Microcomputer Systems Manager." From the description it sounds like it's a step up from what I have been doing and appears to be the management of the windows computing environment. I was looking at the site and comparing it to CBA and it looks like CBA has about double the number of students Wesleyan has. The CS/IS pages at Wesleyan have some pretty interesting information and it's nice that they also use Dell computers. I am really hopeful that I can at least get an interview as I would really like to have this job.

One of the problems with my current job was that it should have become this job I'm applying for. I was ready to advance but there was no where for me to go within that organization. So I simply slacked off near the end because it seemed worthless to even try anymore, since I wasn't going to see any benefits from it.

I will keep you updated on this if anything else should happen.

Running

Wanted to leave a quick update..

About to go drop of my resume and cover letter stuff... it made me realize the only good clothes I have are all work shirts but I am going to wear one anyway to drop of the resume, it's better than something super crappy looking and I do still work there..

Gotta run, will update more later.

Peace.
