Another Fun Evening...

This evening I went out with my friends Sheri and Tony (Toni Tone). It was a lot of fun. First I went over to their place for a little bit and we played with the dogs. They are working on training their dogs right now and it seems to be working out well. After that we headed out for dinner. We had to stop first and drop off some negatives for Tony because he needed a picture for some application he was mailing. Then we drove downtown and went to eat at Buzzard Billy's That was my first time going there, it was pretty good. After that we got ice cream at Ivanna Cone and then drove back to Walgreen's to pick up the picture. While we were there, Sheri and I decided we should go to Pioneer Park and play frisbee, so we had to buy a frisbee. They also bought a kite so we could try that out to. It was a kite of the B-2 bomber, which was cool. We went and played frisbee until we couldn't see anymore, the kite never really did fly without Tony running like a madman, so it didn't last long. We all felt old and tired by the time we left. It was quite sad really.

ThinkGeek

So I finally bought some stuff from Think Geek that came yesterday. Thanks C-Bob for getting my box. I got a poster, one of the demotivators, this one is Procrastination, a sticker for my linux machine, this card game called burn rate and a shirt. The shirt is pretty cool, it says "There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't." I think it's pretty funny, I'll probably wear it today. Just thought I would share.

Friday Fun..

So I actually went out with people tonight and did stuff. Jeff, Nate, Kelly and myself went to see Anger Management at the Lincoln Theatre. This is a pretty good movie, funny and I didn't find myself getting bored. The ending was interesting, it's a pretty typical comedy, but it was worth seeing. The price of tickets is crazy, and I know it's probably cheap compared to other places, but $7.00 seems pricey. I need to go see more movies at the Star Ship theatre, which are second run films and thus cost less to see, but you still get to see them in the theatre.

Before we went to the movie, we ate at Wendy's, which was mostly uneventful except when this guy totally freaked out. This guy was sitting a few tables over from us and he went to bite into his sandwich. He got this strange look on his face, kind of backed up in his chair and just looked inside his burger. Then he jumps up and runs up to the counter with the burger. So right now I'm thinking, damn, he found a bug in there or something. I overhear him talking to the guy behind the counter.. "This has tomatoes and I said no tomatoes!" He was all freaked out about it too. Kelly said maybe he was allergic, but he was eating ketchup too, it was crazy. I made the comment right after, "hell, I thought he bit into a live animal or something." The people at the table next to us thought that was funny.

After the movie we came back to my place for a little drinking and playing Halo. That was a lot of fun but I am pretty tired now. I really had a good time, it is nice to go out and do something.

Work

So here I am sitting in the computer lab, monitoring students, because I am the only person from tech services here right now. The consultant is a no show, Chad went over to the PPC to work on a request and probably won't come back and we don't currently have a student worker at this time. This means I have to sit in the computer lab, instead of getting upstairs and getting the printers fixed I need to get fixed. Plus this in all likelyhood means I will be here until 5:00 again tonight. I should just stop coming in at 7:30, but I like having that time before the help desk opens.

I'm just bitter.

Hey...

someone remind me to go to bed before 1 am tonight. Three nights in a row is really starting to wear on me... *yawn*

Naps...

are great... *yawn*

Rainy Days and Police Work

It is raining outside right now, I really like rainy weather. The air smells so nice and there is a nice breeze. I can hear the rain falling, very soothing after a long day. Had meetings this morning, then we got working on tracking down a computer all afternoon. As it turns out this computer was apparently involved in fraudulent activities, according to the Lincoln Police Department. All they could give us was the IP address, and we had to find the physical computer. We were able to figure out that the ip was registered to a certain user name, but no one in the building had that name. After some thinking we realized that it must be someone that used to work there, and that it was an old system. Quick phone called revealed this to be true so we knew it had to be one of the old systems, of which there are very few. So we went and checked the IP addresses on those systems, but it wasn't any of those. We were able to get the MAC address from UNL IS but we were unable to use that to find it in inventory, because the address was not listed. Finally it was suggested we try nbtstat on the IP, this told us the machine name. Had to search the inventory again, which was incorrect, because it showed that system was in surplus. Finally we went through the hand written inventory sheets from the last audit, and it again was not listed. Since we had not audited surplus equipment at the time, we knew it had to have gone out to the building recently. We went down to the store room and looked at some of the cases, and one was one number off the machine we were looking for. That was when it clicked, it was one of our new email stations. So we searched it down and brought it back to the help desk. I have to call the police tomorrow and tell them that we located the machine and see what they want to do about it.

On another note, I made chicken nachos, they were very yummy.

Again...

geez.. I didn't want to wake up this morning. Probably because I didn't go to bed until 12:30, *shrug* oh well. I got most of the portfolio done, but I should have time to work on it this morning at work and finish it off. Really just needs polished, printed and sorted. Plus I need to find a copy of my current job description.

Time to get my shoes tied and get out the door. Peace!

stupid blogger...

I wrote this blog earlier and now it's gone. I don't really feel like retyping it....

Basically, I have to work on this binder thing for work tonight. I was nominated for the Distinguished Service Award and they need me to type stuff up like my work philosophy and stuff that I have done, etc. It's pretty lame, but the winner gets $1,000, which would be awesome. It's all political though, so I'm not holding my breath.

Yikes!

Running late.... *runs around*

Tired..

I am very tired, I should really go to bed. I have been playing around with the GUI version of Red Hat 9, and it reminds me a lot of OS X, I feel like I have a mac or something. It is really taxing my system too, the poor 550mhz processor is dying sometimes. Even though it has 512 mb of memory, it seems extremely sluggish. So, C-Bob, you may want to rethink which distribution of linux you use, this is killer slow. Browsing the web was a joke, it's slower than dial-up, it reminded me of back when I first started getting online graphically, with Mosaic, on my brother's Amiga 500 complete with 14.4 modem. It's slow, really really slow.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, it's just another operating system. I need to do more reading and what not to really understand the benefits of linux and how to use the command line and things like that. It will be interersting to play with though. I mean, at least it's not microsoft..... yet..... *sigh*

Linux

Got Red Hat 9 installed on "stupid" and I am messing around with that now. Not sure what I think of it, it is different though. *shrug* Not feeling talkative.

Cell phones...

the class in the room next door is on break right now, and there are at least 5 people in the hallway on cell phones. Always strikes me as funny, not sure what is so important that you can't go 2 hours without being on the phone. But what do I know, I'm on the computer all the time, so I guess it's not much different.

Video Game Rental..

I just wanted to post this link so I could remember to go look at it later. Gamefly. It's like netflix, but for video games.

Daylight....

Woo, man I slept like crazy last night, it was perfect. I have not slept that well in a long, long time. I actually feel refreshed this morning, which is majorly cool. Even though I didn't really go to sleep until midnight, the sleep was good enough to the point that that doesn't matter. I think last night was good because I got plenty of REM sleep, which is something I think I don't always get enough of. I had a lot of strange dreams last night, I even had one about instant messaging, but it was more a rehash of the evenings activities then really anything that odd. I dreamed about fixing computers to, as that seems to be dominating my mind right now.

Spent a lot of time last night trying to get "stupid" to work but never got it up and running. I am going to take it to work with me and see if someone there can help me get it working. It has always had issues, I don't think it really wants to work.

Seeing as though the garbage is about to come to life and kill me, I'm going to go take care of that now. Peace.

Sunday Evening...

Just got home from my parent's house, which wasn't so bad. Drug the old Atari 2600 out of the depth of the basement, and after searching for an adaptor for the new fangled TV, finally got it hooked up. Some of the games had a hard time loading up, which could be do to corrosion or them just wearing out, it was kind of sad. First game I plopped in was good old Space Invaders, at which I failed miserably, as always. Then I ran the gamete of games, Pinball, Pac Man (apparently worst version ever, according to my brother), Freeway (run chicken run!), Enduro (which almost didn't work, but finally did after smacking it), and a few other games. I then put in ET, which according to my brother is the worst game ever made. I remember really liking this game, but when I played it this time, I realized that he was right, it was the worst game ever. It was strange, my brother and me sitting in the living room playing Atari and watching cartoons on cartoon network, kind of a step back in time in a ways. I was going to bring the Atari 2600 back with me, but I didn't, maybe some other time. It was fun but I still suck at the games so it wasn't as much fun as I wanted it to be. We also played a few rounds of combat, with the tanks, against each other. My brother beat me the first two times, as always, but in the last game, I finally won, which was cool.

We ended up bringing in Famous Dave's BBQ for dinner and it was pretty good. Really though, I would give up the meat for more cornbread, that stuff is great. We had bread pudding for dinner which was delicious as always. Well since the laundry won't put itself away (even thought it should) I am going to close now. I hope you all had wonderful days.

Peace.

Mornin'

I guess today is a holiday, that's cool for people that are into that. Today is also my brother's birthday, so we are getting together as a family and doing the normal birthday thing. Probably go out to dinner and what not.

I was going to leave here at 10:00, but that just doesn't seem practical right now, but I am working on it. I finally got out of bed at about 9:10, remembered to take my antibiotic and ate a chocolate zinger. Seems like a suitable breakfast to me. Showered and then decided to check my email and etc.

I downloaded some mp3s from The All-American Rejects, you know, the "swing swing swing" kids. My mp3 collection is becoming stale, so if anyone can suggest something cool to download, please let me know. I'm always looking for more crap to add to my collection.

Well since this doesn't make my leaving happen any faster, I am going to close with this quote from an email I got...

"You read about all these terrorists -- most of them came here
legally, but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long
as 10-15 years. Now, go compare that to Blockbuster: you're two days
late with a video and those people are all over you. Let's put
Blockbuster in charge of immigration."
